A SCINTILLATING START TO 18TH EDITION OF INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF KERALA

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy  inaugurated the the 18th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (18thIFFK)  at Nishagandhi auditorium in the presence of  the Guest of Honour Shabana Azmi, actor and activist . While inaugurating the fest Oommen Chandy said “the Kerala government will help promote and protect the Malayalam film industry”. “The festival had been a positive influence on the Malayalam film industry and and the government had taken steps to protect the industry from piracy, he added. Shabana Azmi, who recalled visiting the city more than a decade ago to inaugurate the KSCA, appreciated the government for encouraging and promoting the film festival. Carlos Saura ,the eminent film maker from Spain  received the Life Time Achievement award from the Chief minister. “In the technology-driven world of today, we should not forget that the most important contemporary art forms are photography and cinema. But photographs become history the moment you finish it. So, only cinema is the only total art form that remains,” Saura said. K.C.Joseph  Minister for Cultural Affairs presided, V.S. Sivakumar , K.P. Anilkumar  Ministers and   Manju Warrier ,actor participated .E.K.Bharat Bhushan, Chief Secretary, Priyadarsan Festival Director , Rani George Secretary ,Cultural Affairs were present. Bina Paul  introduced the jury  ,Gandimathi Balan, Vice Chairman read the citation on Carlos Saura and Rajendran Nair proposed a vote of thanks. It was followed by cultural programme and screening of the opening film Ana Arabia by Amos Gitai. The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, in association with KSCA, will stage a mix of Indo-Spanish art forms as a tribute to Carlos Saura at Co-Bank Towers on 8th December.
