26th International Film Festival of Kerala

 

The 26th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is scheduled to be held from December 10th to 17th, 2021 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The Festival is organized by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Cultural Affairs Department, Govt. of Kerala. The festival has a Competition Section for films from Asia, Africa, and Latin America as well as an Official World Cinema Section. The entries to International Competition/World Cinema/ Indian Cinema closes on 10th September 2021. However, the deadline for submission of Malayalam Films to Malayalam Cinema Today has been extended to 30th September 2021.

74th Festival de Cannes
All the Awards!



 12 days long the 74th Festival de Cannes has ended with the cinema as a great international event full of discoveries, encounters, and sharing.

 American actress-director Jodie Foster was awarded an honorary Palme d'or at the Opening Ceremony on 6 July, Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio has received the distinction at the closing ceremony for his exceptional career. The trophy was presented to him by Paolo Sorrentino.

On the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière, the Master of Ceremonies, Doria Tillier, was joined by the Feature Film Jury chaired by Spike Lee and composed of Mati Diop, Mylène Farmer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessica Hausner, Mélanie Laurent, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Tahar Rahim and Song Kang-ho, for the announcement of the 2021 Awards.

Palme d'or

TITANE directed by Julia DUCOURNAU



French filmmaker Julia Ducournau became the second-ever female director to win the Palme d’Or, with her audacious Titane. The last time a woman scooped the top prize was in 1993 when Jane Campion shared honors in a tie between her The Piano and Chen Kaige’s Farewell My Concubine.

Refocused on the discovery of emerging filmmakers, the 2021 Un Certain Regard has offered twenty features in its competition. Six of them were first films that compete as well for the Camera d'or. The opening film was Arthur Harari's Onoda - 10 000 Nights in the Jungle.

Lead by the director and screenwriter Andrea Arnold, the Jury was made up of the director and screenwriter Mounia Meddour, the actress Elsa Zylberstein, the director and screenwriter Daniel Burman and Michael Covino, director and actor.

The Short Films and Cinéfondation Jury comprised of Sameh Alaa, Kaouther Ben Hania, Carlos Muguiro, Tuva Novotny, Nicolas Pariser and Alice Winocour, has awarded the 2021 Cinéfondation Prizes during a ceremony held in the Buñuel Theatre, followed by the screening of the winning films.

The Cinéfondation Selection consisted of 17 student films, chosen out of 1 835 entries coming from 490 film schools around the world.

The 13th International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala  (IDSFFK) is slated to be held from 25th to 30th September 2021 at Thiruvananthapuram. Entries are invited in the following categories: Long Documentary, Short Documentary, Short Fiction, Campus Film, Focus Sections, and Malayalam Non-competition section. The Cannes Film Festival has unveiled its Official Selection line-up for the 74th edition,Cannes 2021 which is scheduled from July 6-17 on the Riviera. Cannes Film Festival President Pierre Lescure an Nabil Ayouch d General Delegate Thierry Frémaux announced  61 titles last week in Paris. This includes 24 in Competition (four of those are directed by women). Many familiar names in the list including Asghar Farhadi and Nanni Moretti Jacques Audiard, François Ozon, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Nabil Ayouch.
