Global economic slowdown affects film festivals.
The Jakarta International Film Fest ( JIFFEST ) has decided to slash the festival days from ten days to five due to the global recession . It the fest originally planned from Dec 5th to -14 is changed from 5th to 9th. 10th edition of JIFFEST, this year set to include a retrospective titled '10 Years of Indonesian Film Revival.' This will feature hits "Sherina's Adventure" (Petualangan Sherina) "What's up Love?" (Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?) and chiller "Jelangkung." This festival‘s funding sources were from foreign benefactors, with revenues from ticket sales , a smaller amount of government funding and local commercial partners. The increased cost of film rentals and the cost of venue rentals forced the festival authorities to cut short the festival days. The festival’s opening film will be Coen brothers' "Burn After Reading" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona is planned to be the closing night film." "Happy-Go-Lucky," "Flame & Citron" from Denmark, French mega-hit "Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis" and Oscar hopefuls from The Netherlands ("Dunya & Desie,") Jordan ("Captain Abu Raed") and Iran ("Songs of Sparrows.") are other film included in the programme basket
