Therefore I forget what I did before and when I look through my camera lens once more, everything is new again,” said the auteur at a press conference after the screening of his first film, One’s Own Choice (1972). He made 11 feature films in 37 years: “A retrospective of mine is not hard to organise, as I have not made a lot of movies. Being utterly bored with repetition, I always try to create something completely new.”
His films have a common thread nonetheless – they all address human psychological traumas. “Regardless of our origin and the quality of our clothes, we share many things. Naturally, on screen we see the physical world, yet, truly, I aim at exploring the inner landscapes”, pointed out Gopalakrishnan in the press conference held at the festival venue.
