The International Film Festival of Kerala is one of the grandest and most-sought-after events among film enthusiasts .This grandeur event is being organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy , Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. The festival is recognized by the FIAPF thus making it part of a prestigious circle of specialized festivals .IFFK boast’s of an exclusive and extremely popular Competition section restricted to films produced or co produced in ASIA, AFRICA & LATIN AMERICA within the last year of the festival cycle. The usual sections include world cinema, documentaries (in film formats), short fiction (in film formats), retrospectives, homage’s and tributes. . It was divided into categories like Contemporary World Cinema, New Malayalam Cinema, Retrospectives of Major filmmakers, Homage and Tributes, Contemporary Indian Cinema, Short films and Documentaries. Seminars on issues concerning cinema are included. The competition section was introduced into the festival in 1999, which is solely for films from Asia, Africa and Latin America.The prizes in this fest include - The Golden Crow Pheasant Award: Suvarna Chakoram and a cash prize to the best feature film to be shared equally by the director and the producer.The Silver Crow Pheasant Award: Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize to the best director.The Best Debut Film Award: Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize to the best début director.FIPRESCI Award: For the best film chosen by the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique.NETPAC Award: For the best film in the competition section from Asia, chosen by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema.Audience Prize: Rajata Chakoram and cash prize to the Director of the most popular film voted by the festival delegates. The 15th edition of IFFK will be held at Thiruvananthapuram (formerly known as Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala in the Southern peninsula of India from 10th - 17th December 2010.
