Special Jury award and Silver Peacock for Adaminte Makan Abu('Abu, Son of Adam' ) ,in IFFI 2011
Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu('Abu, Son of Adam' ) directed by Salim Ahamad ,the only official entry India won Special Jury award and Silver Peacock in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011 which concluded now. The international competition section also had films from countries including Belgium, Philippines, Russia, Japan, Iran, Ireland, Colombia, Israel, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Canada and Kazakhstan. The film 'Adaminte Makan Abu' (Abu, Son of Adam), which won National and Kerala State awards has also been chosen as India's official entry in the Best Foreign Film category for the 84th Academy Awards. It is the story of a poor perfume-seller, Abu, whose only remaining wish in life is the sacred Haj Pilgrimage. The jury, headed by renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and Laurence Kardish, Yong Kwan, Tahmineh Milani, and Dan Wolman, selected five from 14 films for Golden and Silver Peacock Awards..
