Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala will inaugurate the 24th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) today, the sixth of December, in the presence of members of different Juries, other dignitaries, directors, and crew of the films scheduled in the fest. Actor Sharada will be the guest of honor.
Turkish film ‘Passed by Censor’, by Serhat Karaasian, will
be the opening film. It depicts the story of a prison employee who steals the
photo of an inmate’s wife from a letter and becomes obsessed with her.
Minister for Cultural Affairs A K Balan will preside over
the inaugural ceremony and Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran will
be the chief guest. Shashi Tharoor, MP, will officially release the
festival book by handing over a copy to Mayor K Sreekumar. V K Prashanth, MLA,
will release the festival bulletin which will be received by district panchayat
president V K Madhu.
A total of 186 films from over 70 countries will be
screened in 15 categories at the festival.14 theatres, equipped with 4K
projection facilities have been selected as venues for the mega event. The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the organizers of the fest under the guidance of Kamal, Chairman, Beena Paul, vice Chairperson, Mahesh Panju the Secretary and Executive Director have completed all arrangements for conducting the prestigious cultural mega event in a befitting manner on international standards.
