The FIPRESCI Prize went to "Yes and Yes" in the 36th Moscow International Film Festival.

      "Yes and Yes" directed by Valeria Gay Germanika (Russia) won the prize of International Film Critics(FIPRESCI)  in the 36th Moscow International Film Festival. Jury members were Gideon Kouts, France, president, Andrés Nazarala, Chile, Rita di Santo, UK, Caroline Weidner, Germany, and Olga Surkova, Russia.

7th Edition of IDSFFK will be inaugurated today

7 th edition of International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala will be inaugurated by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan , Minister of Cultural Affairs Govt.of Kerala today, the18^th August 2014 at Kairali, Nila and Sree theatres,Thiruvananthapuram. Gautam Menon , Film Director will be the guest of hounor . V .S Sivakumar ,Minister for Health will preside over the function. Shri Rajiv Mehrotra, Manging Trustee of Public Service broadcasting trust will deliver the key note address. Rajya Sabha Television CEO Gurdeep Singh Sappal will felicitate over the function. Frederico Adorno‘s ‘Paraguay’ and Khalo Matabane’s ‘Nelson Mandela: the myth and me’ will be the inaugural films. Nelson Mangela: The myth & me explores how diverse global leaders interpret Nelson Mandela’s message of freedom, forgiveness and reconciliation. Trying to avoid the danger of creating a single ’true’ story, the film combines director Khalo Matabane’s personal reflections with the thoughts of the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan, Joachim Gauck and Arundhati Roy as well as artists, thinkers and activists from around the globe.

 94 films selected out of 600 entries will compete for top honors. A total of 212 films are being showcased for this five day festival dedicated for documentaries and short films. The jury of the festival include Hong Hysook, Susie Tharu and Harsh Mander  .

Best documentary will bag one Lakh Rupees and certificate of merit where as short documentaries will be awarded fifty thousand rupees and certificate.Both Animation films and music videos will be awarded twenty five thousand rupees each and certificate.Campus films will be given twenty thousand rupees and  certificate.
Best Documentary cinematographer award will be presented by cinematographer Navroze Contractor. This award comprises fifteen thousand rupees and certificate. Gender sensitive film will also be recognised at the festival. A cash award of twenty thousand will be given away for the best gender sensitive film.

Special section comprises of a package of film. The special sections will have an Environmental film category, which includes ‘Virunga’ by Orlando Van Einsiedel, portraying the manmade conflict threatening the last habitat of gorillas. The film has won four International awards. Deepthi Kakkar and Fahad Mustafas film ‘Powerless’, which was the premier film at the Berlin Film festival, is also screened in the festival. The other films screening under this category incorporates Kamar Ahaneed simons, ‘Are you listening’, Jean cosmes, ‘By my side’ and Kalyanai mams ‘A river changes course’.

                Films from Middle East is another category which has been screened under the special section The other section under special films are, a curated section of films comprising five films portraying the post Arab Spring  era  showing the riotous seasons the countries like Egypt, Lebanon , Jordan, Palestine and its effects on the common man. The first Indian screening of these films, at the festival which makes the category special. K.K Chandran’s  ‘Potrait Of a Film Director : Adoor GopalaKrishnan’ , Razak Kottakal , ‘One day from a Hangmans Life’  and Micheal glawogger, ‘Working  Man’s Life’ and ‘Mega Cities’ are the films screened in the homage section.

Delegate registration for the 7th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (18th -22nd July 2014, Thiruvananthapuram) has opened at https://vp.eventival.eu/idsffk/idsffk2014 .Delegate registration is Rs. 100/- + a bank fee of Rs.25/. After registering 2 copies of the  challan should be downloaded and cash paid at any branch of SBT in India before the 15th July 2014. Pls note there is no option for online payments. 3rd Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF) 2014 inaugurated .

The third edition of Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF) kicked off on June 27. The ongoing film festival offers an interesting mix of international and Indian films. The three-day fest was inaugurated by His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche, the spiritual regent of His Holiness Gwalyong Drukpa, the head of the Drukpa Lineage that has 267 monasteries in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The inaugural lamp was lit by a few Ladakhi students . The fest opened with the screening of Kamal Swaroop's National Award winning non-feature film "Rangbhoomi", which is based on Dadasaheb Phalke’s eponymous semi-autobiographical play of the same name. Indian film personalities including Govind Nihalani, Deepti Naval, Rajit Kapur, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Amole Gupte attended the inauguration ceremony of the  LIFF  held at Sindhu Sanskriti Centre. The ceremony also saw the presence of officials of the South Korean Embassy ,Delhi, regent of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa (head of Drukpa lineage). Shilpa Shukla, whose acclaimed film, Nazarudheen Sha starrer, "The Coffin Maker",  is also present. This film will be screened in the fest. Melwyn Williams Chirayath is the founder and Festival Director. The film , ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’  directed by Michael Bay was screened subsequently.Lumicel ,a Trivandrum based animation company created the signature film for the 3^rd LIFE.

Best Film - Documentary:
'Candles In The Wind'
Directors: Kavita Bahl & Nandan Saxena
The film is extraordinary in its consistency, perseverance and empathy in exploring the effects of the current crisis of non-remunerative farming and phenomenon of farmers' suicide in Punjab. While following the trajectory of investigative documentary the filmmakers have made every effort to maintain and enhance the dignity of their ill-fated protagonists. The oft-repeated story in the media of the farmers' suicide takes a new turn in this film through the testimonies of the farm-widows who are left behind to navigate through the hostile terrains of the land and the devastated familial life. The enquiring camera blurs the line between the role of the protagonist and that of the investigator and reverses their roles by the end of it.

'Makhi (The Fly)'
Director: Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni
This film is distinct in its sarcastic depiction of the contemporary social system and playful ways of subverting the same. The contention over the market -driven system gets revealed through an extremely contrived and sardonic chain of events. The film is enriched with a unique intelligence and humour prevalent in its texture, characterisation, dialogues, and inter-personal relationships. The rampant instances of sordid manipulation of the issues of environment, public health, urban development and retrenchment come to stand on its head in this delightful film on resistance.

'Aisa Nahin Hua Tha Tahira (Jumbled Cans)'

The highly stylised and lyrical film simultaneously travels through multiple narrative tracks and different temporalities. Through a structure that coalesces the locations, spoken words, quotes from literary works and memories of mutations into a narrative the film manages to weave in a composite tale of human relationships and desires.

'A Dream Animal'
Director: Sanyukta Sharma
The film most unobtrusively turns the act of a sound recordist recording the ambience sound of a jungle into an exercise of learning to listen to the nature, for the spectators. The filmmaker's method of questioning our standard response to the nature is inconspicuous yet provocative.

The film, extensively shot in the treacherous climate and terrain of Pir Panchal range, not only documents the precarious livelihood practice of the Himalayan shepherds but brings forward the dignity in their lifestyle and finds humanity in their livestock.
'...Ebang Bewarish(...And The Unclaimed)'
Director: Debalina
While investigating the suicide-murder of a lesbian couple the film diligently unearths a hostile social milieu that accomplishes such crime. It is poignant to see that the filmmaker restores the legacy of the abandoned / dead couple into a diverse group of people who practice same sex love.
