Fifteen films to compete for the Kutxa-New Directors Award
The 59th edition of San Sebastian Festival will present in the Zabaltegi-New Directors section titles from Iceland, Japan, Israel, Germany, South Korea, Chile, the USA, Austria and the UK, which join the three Spanish movies already announced: Ignacio Ferreras’ Arrugas (Wrinkles), Sandra Sánchez’ Tralas luces (Behind the Lights), and Telmo Esnal’s Urte berri on, amona! All will contend for the Kutxa-New Directors Award along with another three titles in the Official selection: Americano by Mathieu Demy (France), Rampart by Oren Moverman (USA) and Take This Waltz by Sarah Polley (Canada).
Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life won FIPRESCI Grand Prix 2011 for the Best Film of the Year
The Tree of Life is the Best Film of the past year, according to the members of FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics. More than 200 critics from throughout the world responded to the annual poll for the Grand Prix, giving Terrence Malick’s latest work a clear victory.It also won this year’s Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival.The award will be presented on September 16, during the opening ceremony of the 59th San Sebastián International Film Festival, the first under the direction of José Luis Rebordinos. The Spanish event, where Malick’s Badlands won the Golden Shell in 1974, hosts the FIPRESCI Grand Prix since its creation in 1999. This award, which has already been presented to Jafar Panahi, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, Michael Haneke and Aki Kaurismäki, among others, distinguishes a feature-length film premièred since July of the previous year for its overall artistic quality.

Award Winning films in 4th International Documentary and Short film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK)
A Pestering Journey directed by K.R.Manoj won the award for best long documentary film ,There is Something in the Air directed by Iram Gufran gets the Best short documentary award and Kaveri directed by Shilpa Munikempanna won the award for best short fiction ,in the five day long 4th International Documentary and Short film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) concluded this evening at Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy presented the awards to the winners. Ganesh Kumar ,Minister for films, Priyadarsanan, Chalachitra Academy Chair person etc were present in the concluding ceremony. Other recipients of awards are:
